Venezuela’s Presidential Elections Set for July 28

Venezuela to Hold Presidential Elections on July 28
The President of Venezuela’s National Electoral Council (CNE), Elvis Amoroso, recently announced that the country will hold presidential elections on July 28. During a press conference, Amoroso stated that the decision was made unanimously by the council.
According to Amoroso, candidate applications can be submitted between March 21-25, with the election campaign set to take place from July 4-25. While the official candidate of the ruling party is expected to be current President Nicolas Maduro, the opposition candidate is yet to be determined pending alliance talks in the coming days.
Surprisingly, President Maduro had previously promised Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva during a bilateral meeting on March 2 that the Venezuelan presidential election would be held in the second half of 2024. However, this announcement seems to have been overridden by the recent decision to hold the elections this year.
The upcoming presidential elections in Venezuela are sure to attract significant attention both domestically and internationally, as the country grapples with political and economic challenges. Stay tuned for more updates on the developing situation.
