Violent Demonstrators Attack Police in Istanbul and Ankara
Recent protests in Istanbul and Ankara took a violent turn as demonstrators attacked security forces with various weapons including acid, axes, and stones. What started as a peaceful demonstration quickly escalated into a dangerous situation.
In Istanbul, Mayor Ekrem Imamoglu attempted to break through a police barricade in protest of investigations against the group. Despite warnings from security forces, the demonstrators continued their attacks with fireworks, stones, and even flammable substances. Shockingly, a police officer was injured when acid was thrown at him during the chaos.
Similar scenes unfolded in Ankara, where police repeatedly warned activists to disperse before they resorted to violent attacks with weapons like screwdrivers and pliers. One police officer was even wounded in the head with a Balta (a type of axe) thrown by a protester.
Despite police intervention with pepper spray and pressurized water, the provocateurs continued to resist, leading to numerous arrests in both cities. The violent clashes serve as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by security forces in the line of duty.
