What to Expect: Weather and School Holidays in Istanbul on 19-20 February 2025
In response to the expected snowfall in Istanbul, the Istanbul Governorate has announced measures to mitigate any potential negative effects.
The General Directorate of Meteorology has forecasted ongoing snowfall in Istanbul until the evening of Monday, February 24th. In anticipation of this weather event, the Istanbul Disaster Response Plan (TAMP) was activated on February 19th to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens. 23 main working groups have been established to address various challenges, including clearing snow from roads and bridges, conducting snow tire inspections, and providing shelter for the homeless.
Efforts are also being made to address potential disruptions in essential services such as electricity, water, and natural gas, with additional intervention teams ready to respond swiftly. Emergency health services have been bolstered to handle any health-related issues that may arise during the snowfall.
Citizens are urged to prioritize safety by avoiding unnecessary travel, utilizing public transportation when needed, and staying informed about weather conditions. It is advised to check for any cancellations of sea and air travel and plan accordingly to prevent any inconvenience.
