WHO and Doctors Without Borders Delegation Visit Avde Hospital in Gaza

A delegation from the World Health Organization (WHO) and Doctors Without Borders recently visited the hospital in Beit Lahiya town in Gaza to assess the situation and provide much-needed medical supplies and medicine. Doctor Muhammed Saliha, a hospital official, shared that the delegation delivered 9 thousand liters of fuel for the backup electricity generators, along with essential medical supplies and medication for the sick and injured.

During their visit, the delegation also learned about the challenges healthcare workers are facing and the extensive damage caused by Israeli attacks. They promised to make ongoing efforts to supply fuel, medical supplies, and medicine to ensure the hospital can continue its operations. The hospital staff also highlighted the food crisis they are experiencing, and the delegation vowed to contact food supply coordinators in UN organizations to help address this issue.

Since October 7, many hospitals in Gaza city and the north have been forced out of service due to the ongoing attacks by Israel. Despite these challenges, some hospitals are still providing basic health services under extremely difficult conditions. The Israeli army’s attacks in the Gaza Strip over the past five months have resulted in the deaths of 31,923 Palestinians, including thousands of children and women, with 74,096 people sustaining injuries.

Tragically, there are still thousands of individuals buried under the rubble, and civilian infrastructure, including hospitals and educational institutions where people sought refuge, has been targeted and destroyed. The visit by the WHO and Doctors Without Borders delegation is crucial in providing support to the healthcare system in Gaza during this challenging time.
