Millions of civil servants and pensioners in Turkey are set to benefit from new regulations that will be discussed in parliament this week. The proposals, which have been passed by the Plan and Budget Committee, include an increase in the lowest civil servant salary to 22 thousand liras. Additionally, civil servants will receive an 8 thousand 77 lira hike.

The pension increase rate is also set to rise by 25 percent, with the salaries of retirees whose root pension is below 7 thousand 500 liras increasing to 7 thousand 500 liras. This increase will also affect the pensions of widows and orphans. If the law is passed in parliament, SSK and BAĞ-KUR retirees will receive an increased salary this month.

Another important regulation under discussion is the extension of the 25% upper limit on the rate of increase in residential rents until July 1, 2024. Meanwhile, a law is also being considered to ensure that convicts on coronavirus leave until July 31, 2023 do not return to prison.

In addition, an additional budget of 1.1 trillion liras will be discussed at the Planning and Budget Committee, with plans to add it to the 2023 budget. This additional budget is expected to be presented to the General Assembly later this week.

Economist Muhammet Bayram has provided information on the minimum pensions that will be implemented. Retired civil servants will now receive a minimum of 7 thousand 901 TL, which will increase to 9 thousand 876 TL with a 25% increase. Similarly, retired tradesmen will see their minimum pension rise from 5 thousand 454 TL to 6 thousand 817 TL.

The 25% increase will also apply to the pensions of widows and orphans. Those who receive a 75% widow and orphan’s pension will see their salaries increase to 5,625 TL, while those who receive 50% will receive 3 thousand 750 TL, and those who receive 25% will receive 875 TL.

There is also the possibility of an additional article being added to the minimum pension amount in the General Assembly, with the current minimum set at 7 thousand 500 TL.
