18th Tepebaşı Tulip Festival Organized by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel

The 17th Tepebaşı Lale Festival was recently held in cooperation with Lapta Alsancak Çamlıbel Municipality, Tepebaşı Mukhtarlık, and Tepebaşı Culture and Art and Nature Protection Association. Prime Minister Ünal Üstel participated in the opening of the festival and delivered a speech highlighting the government’s efforts to serve the public and improve the welfare level of the country.

Despite the global economic challenges brought about by the pandemic and wars, Üstel reassured that employees were not victimized and were paid in accordance with the cost of living. The government provided social insurance and premium support to all sectors, aiming to mitigate the impact of the economic difficulties faced by the TRNC.

In a bid to promote gender equality and increase women’s participation in the economy, the government undertook the social insurance premiums of women entrepreneurs entering various sectors. This initiative led to a decrease in women’s unemployment, with the state covering 80 percent of social insurance premiums for TRNC citizens. Üstel also announced that by 2025, the state would cover 100 percent of social insurance premiums for women.

The government is also extending support to the agricultural sector by providing incentives and ensuring that farmers are compensated for losses incurred. Additionally, collaboration with the Republic of Turkey has facilitated exports and economic cooperation to raise the welfare level of the country.

In line with efforts to enhance the quality of life, the government has collaborated with local governments to develop infrastructure projects, including the improvement of the Geçitköy-Çamlıbel-Cetebaşı road for safer travel. Social housing projects are also underway to provide affordable housing to young people in both rural and urban areas.

Üstel emphasized the government’s commitment to fulfilling promises to young people, with the introduction of the Social Housing Regulation and the upcoming launch of the first social housing project in Güzelyurt. Plans for similar projects in Nicosia and Karpaz are also in the pipeline.

Furthermore, the Tepebaşı, Çamlıbel-Hisarköy Region Social Housing Project is set to be announced soon, offering more opportunities for affordable housing. The “First Home Loan” program provides assistance to individuals looking to purchase a home, emphasizing inclusivity for those in need of housing.

Overall, the government’s initiatives aim to improve the quality of life, promote gender equality, and provide support to various sectors to enhance the welfare and prosperity of TRNC citizens.
