“YSK Reveals Total Overseas Votes in Recent Election”
The Supreme Election Council (YSK) has announced that a total of 697,577 voters have cast their votes in the elections from abroad. The number of voters who voted at the Overseas Representations is 644,972, while 52,605 voted at the customs gates. The announcement was made at 21:00 on May 1st.
This year’s elections saw a high turnout from Turkish citizens residing abroad who were able to cast their votes at 129 foreign missions and customs gates around the world. The YSK had extended the voting period for citizens abroad due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with voting taking place from April 26 to May 1.
The turnout from voters abroad is expected to play a crucial role in the final results of the elections. The results of the snap elections will determine the make-up of the Turkish parliament and the country’s government for the next four years.
