2nd International Women Playwrights Theater Festival Begins November 16

The 2nd International Women Playwrights Theater Festival, organized by State Theaters (DT), is set to take place from November 16th to November 26th. The festival will be held at the Atatürk Cultural Center and DT Üsküdar Tekel Stage.

During the press conference held at Üsküdar Tekel Stage, State Theaters Deputy General Manager Sükun Işıtan emphasized the unique perspective that women bring to every aspect of life, including the world of theater. “Women are the most beautiful half of the world,” he said. “They have a deep and colorful sensitivity wherever they exist and create. For this reason, women’s presence is also evident in theatre, which is the reflection of life on the stage.”

Işıtan also highlighted that the festival is designed as a tribute to the contributions of women to the world. “Distinguished theater performances written only by women from all over the world will be brought together,” he said. “Not only plays, but also interviews, seminars, and workshops of women writers will be held, which will further enrich the festival. Teams from all over the world will contribute to the art and cultural life of Istanbul. This year, 12 theater plays from 7 countries will meet theater lovers. Art lovers will be able to watch distinguished stage performances of selected women writers from Cuba, Bulgaria, Tatarstan, Moldova, Georgia, Greece and Turkey.”

The festival will kick off with “Bernardo, No!” staged by Ecos Company from Cuba at AKM on November 16. A total of 12 plays, 6 from Turkey and 6 from abroad, will be presented during the festival, showcasing the stage performances of theater texts written by women from around the world. In addition to the plays, there will be talks, seminars, and workshops by expert trainers in the fields of design, dramatic writing, acting, and dance.

The event was also attended by Istanbul State Theater Director Mehmet Fatih Dokgöz, State Theater Deputy General Directors Ebru Aytürk Şayan and Efe Erkekli. This festival promises to be a celebration of women playwrights and their invaluable contributions to the world of theater.
