Agnes Denes’ Living Pyramid Exhibition Continues Until October 30

Agnes Denes’s Living Pyramid Exhibition at Sakıp Sabancı Museum (SSM) Continues to Thrive
The renowned artist Agnes Denes’s site-specific work, the Living Pyramid, has been on display at Sakıp Sabancı Museum (SSM) for an entire year, attracting visitors with its vibrant and growing presence. The exhibition, which began on October 30th last year, is still open for the public to enjoy.
In line with the artist’s philosophy, the Living Pyramid will continue its life cycle beyond the museum’s premises. Visitors who appreciate the artwork and its concept can take home a part of it. On Saturday, October 28th, art enthusiasts visiting SSM will have the opportunity to bring plants from the pyramid to their own homes, offices, or gardens. All they need is a container to transport the plants.
The Living Pyramid, initially constructed at the Socrates Sculpture Park in New York in 2015 and later showcased at the Nordstadtpark in Kassel as part of documenta 14 in 2017, is not just a static sculpture. It embodies a natural life cycle, evolving and adapting to its surroundings.
Since September 13th, 2022, the Living Pyramid has been situated in SSM’s garden, comprising approximately 600 different species of plants and flowers, totaling two thousand in number. These species have been meticulously chosen from Istanbul’s urban flora and placed strategically on various facades of the pyramid, considering the conditions of sunlight and shade.
The exhibition has received great acclaim from both art enthusiasts and nature lovers. Its unique combination of art and biology allows visitors to witness the harmony between human-made structures and the natural world.
If you haven’t had the chance to visit this extraordinary exhibition, make sure to do so before it ends on October 30th. Witness the Living Pyramid’s vibrant colors and flourishing life, and perhaps, you could even bring a piece of it home with you.
