Agreement for China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project approved

The Chinese government, the Kyrgyz Cabinet of Ministers, and the government of Uzbekistan have approved an agreement to jointly implement the China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan railway project. The Ministry of Transport has been tasked with overseeing the execution of this agreement.

A presidential decree “On the Ratification of the International Agreement” was issued on July 8, confirming the cooperation agreement signed in Beijing on June 6, 2024. The agreement aims to facilitate the construction of the railway project and improve freight traffic efficiency.

The First Project and Research Institute of China Railway Construction Corporation conducted a technical and economic feasibility study in May 2023, concluding that the railway will enhance trade and industrial cooperation among the participating countries. The project is expected to create new enterprises, generate thousands of jobs, and boost investment attractiveness.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized the economic benefits of the railway project, which include improving living standards, increasing trade volumes, and enhancing regional connectivity. The railway will also provide access to markets in South Asia and the Middle East through the Trans-Afghan corridor.

Experts estimate that the railway could handle up to 15 million tons of freight annually, with delivery times reduced to 7 days. The project will also establish modern transit and logistics infrastructure, warehouses, and terminals to support the growing transportation needs of the region.
