Artificial intelligence linked to alcoholism, finds study – Health News

Working with artificial intelligence for extended periods of time can lead to loneliness, insomnia, and alcohol consumption, according to a study by the American Psychological Association. The research examined the relationship between the use of AI in the workplace and loneliness, and participants from different cultures, including the US, Taiwan, Indonesia, and Malaysia, were observed. The studies found that engineers who frequently worked with AI experienced more loneliness and insomnia, and their alcohol consumption was higher. However, a second leg of the research showed that real estate agents had different results on alcohol consumption. The author of the study, Pok Men Tang, suggested that although AI provides positive contributions in the workplace, it can cause mental and physical harm to employees. Employers should impose limits on working with AI and provide opportunities for employees to socialize in order to reduce its negative effects. Tang also stressed the benefit of AI programmers adding social features, such as a humanoid voice, to their systems. The study was published in Applied Psychology on June 12.
