Ayşe Barım detained in Turkey – Breaking News
An ex officio investigation has been launched against manager Ayşe Barım following allegations in the media that she was involved in the Gezi Park events. Barım, who is suspected of directing artists within her company to participate in the events, has been detained for questioning.
The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office stated that Barım’s detention was a result of recent allegations claiming her involvement in the Gezi Park events back in 2013. The statement also mentioned Barım’s close communication with defendants of the Gezi case, Mehmet Osman Kavala, Çiğdem Mater Utku, and Memet Ali Alabora.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Barım is believed to have instructed artists affiliated with her company, ID İletişim Danışmanlık A.Ş., to take part in the Gezi Park events between May 29 and June 2, 2013. It was also alleged that Barım personally participated in the events alongside the artists, leading to suspicions of planning and attempting to overthrow the government or prevent it from performing its duties.
Barım was apprehended on January 24, 2025, in connection with these allegations and is currently under investigation. The case is ongoing as authorities gather more evidence and conduct further inquiries into the matter.
