Bank Employee Arrested for Embezzling 1.5 Million Lira in Eskişehir
A shocking case of embezzlement has rocked the city of Eskişehir, as a bank employee was arrested for allegedly stealing approximately 1.5 million lira. The incident came to light when a vigilant customer noticed unauthorized transactions in his account and reported it to the bank.
Upon investigating the matter, bank officials discovered that employee Onur Uysal had transferred funds from the accounts of 20 elderly customers, who rarely used internet banking, into his own account. These accounts, known as “sleeping accounts,” were targeted by Uysal in a sophisticated scheme to siphon off money for his personal use.
Following a tip-off, the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched an investigation which led to the detention of Onur Uysal by the Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Branch teams of the Provincial Police Department. During interrogation, Uysal admitted to embezzling the funds in order to pay off his debts.
Subsequently, Onur Uysal was arrested on charges of “embezzlement” by the court after completing his procedures at the police station. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of vigilance and oversight in financial institutions to prevent such fraudulent activities from taking place.
