The Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Southern Cyprus will continue to fight against the efforts of some forces to turn Cyprus into a military base in line with their interests, as equal owners of the island.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs invited all relevant parties to act with common sense and international actors to stop encouraging the Greek Cypriot side.

In the written statement made by the Ministry, it was pointed out that the Greek Cypriot Administration of Southern Cyprus has recently increased its armament activities thanks to the “strategic partnerships” it has established with the support of powers such as the United States.

“We have been insistently stating for a long time that the support provided by the US administration to the Greek Cypriot administration under the guise of strategic partnership and the military cooperation of countries such as Israel and France with the Greek Cypriot side carry the danger of changing the delicate balances in the region.” In the statement, it was pointed out that, in fact, there have been news in the press in recent days that the Greek Cypriot administration of Southern Cyprus is making attempts to intervene in Israel’s air defense system in the Greek Cypriot defense system and regarding NATO membership.

“With the historical mistake made by the European Union, the Greek side, which was illegally and unilaterally accepted as a member before an agreement was reached on the Cyprus issue, will have forgotten that the decision to expand the NATO alliance was taken unanimously, and has been encouraged enough to consider becoming a member of NATO.
