An American couple’s missing cat, Galena, found safe in California
An American couple was left heartbroken when their shy cat, Galena, went missing at the beginning of April. Despite launching a search for their beloved pet, they could not locate her anywhere.
About a week later, they received a surprising call from a veterinarian in California, thousands of kilometers away from their home. The couple’s story captured the attention of the media in the US.
It turns out that Galena had accidentally climbed into one of the family’s packages without anyone noticing. She remained in the box for a week, traveling thousands of kilometers until an Amazon employee in California discovered her.
Although hungry and thirsty, Galena was found to be in good health upon her rescue. Carrie Clark, the cat’s owner, revealed to KSL TV channel in Utah that Galena had a special affinity for boxes.
An Amazon employee spotted the cat inside a box containing work shoes with steel toes and promptly took her to a veterinarian. Thanks to Galena’s microchip, the vet was able to contact Clark and inform her of the miraculous discovery.
“I couldn’t believe it when the vet called me. I thought it was some kind of joke,” Clark admitted.
Traveling almost 1,000 kilometers, the couple flew from Utah to California to reunite with their furry friend. An emotional Clark shared the joy of seeing Galena safe and sound, stating, “The moment she saw us, she stopped shaking. The minute I held her, she relaxed. It was a truly incredible reunion.”
The ventilation hole in the box ensured Galena’s well-being during her journey. Despite being exposed to changing weather conditions, she came out unscathed.
Clark urged other cat owners to get their pets microchipped, emphasizing the importance of checking packages thoroughly, especially Amazon boxes. The happy ending to Galena’s adventure serves as a reminder to all pet owners to take precautions to keep their furry companions safe.
