Children Dying of Hunger in Gaza: A Witness Account by WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) has made alarming findings after visiting hospitals in the north of Gaza, according to a post by Ghebreyesus on the X social media platform.

During the visits to Avde Hospital and Kemal Advan Hospital, WHO observed severe malnutrition, children dying of hunger, and a significant shortage of fuel, food, and medical supplies. In addition, the hospital buildings were reported to be destroyed.

The visits took place over the weekend, marking the first time WHO has been able to access hospitals in the north of Gaza since October 2023. Ghebreyesus expressed the organization’s desire for more regular access to these facilities in order to provide aid more effectively.

Of particular concern was the state of Avde Hospital, where one of the buildings had collapsed. Meanwhile, Kemal Advan Hospital, the only pediatric hospital in the area, was struggling to cope with an overwhelming number of patients. Tragically, 10 children had lost their lives due to lack of food.

Despite the challenges, WHO managed to deliver 9,500 liters of fuel and essential medical supplies to both hospitals. However, Ghebreyesus urged Israel to ensure the safe and orderly delivery of humanitarian aid, reiterating the organization’s call for a ceasefire in the region.
