Commemorating Opera Singer Leyla Gencer on Her Death Anniversary
Celebrating the Legacy of Leyla Gencer: A Tribute Concert on the 15th Anniversary of Her Death
It has been 15 years since the passing of one of the most important sopranos of the 20th century, Leyla Gencer. On May 10, 2008, she died in Milan, leaving behind a remarkable legacy in the world of opera.
To honor her memory, members of The Akademi Scale will give a concert at CRR on Gencer’s 15th death anniversary. The concert will feature soprano Sara Rossini and baritone Paolo Ingrasciotta, who will be accompanied on piano by La Scala Academy chief correpetitor James Vaughan.
The concert will showcase a selection of Gencer’s most celebrated works. From G. Rossini’s The Barber of Seville, C. Gounod’s Faust, and Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte (That’s What Women Do), to G. Puccini’s Turandot and La Boheme, G. Verdi’s Falstaff, Giovanna D’arco, and sections from La Traviata, the audience will be treated to a night of unforgettable performances.
Leyla Gencer served until her death as an inspiration and role model for aspiring opera singers. Her impeccable technique, unique voice, and unmatched expression continue to charm opera fans around the world.
