Confusion Surrounds US Response to Israel’s Attacks in Gaza – Last Minute News

During a recent meeting between US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan and Israeli officials, the situation in Gaza was discussed, according to a report by “Axios” news site. The discussions centered around the recent attacks in Gaza and the future course of events in the region.
Sullivan reportedly urged Israel to leave behind the intense period of attacks in a matter of weeks, not months, and transition to a phase with lower intensity of attacks. This was revealed in a statement made by Sullivan during his meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and members of Israel’s war cabinet.
The White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Director, John Kirby, also addressed reporters and confirmed that difficult questions were posed to Israeli officials about the future phase of the conflict. Sullivan emphasized the importance of transitioning to low-intensity operations in the near future. However, Kirby made it clear that the US was not dictating the terms of the occupation in Gaza, stating that it should last as long as Israel deems necessary to eliminate the threat, with the shared goal of ending the conflict as soon as possible.
Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant, who also met with Sullivan, expressed the belief that the liquidation of Hamas would take more than a few months, contradicting the timeline suggested by Sullivan.
The discussions between US and Israeli officials shed light on the differing perspectives regarding the timeline and intensity of operations in Gaza, highlighting the complexity of the situation in the region and the challenges in reaching a resolution. The conflicting viewpoints also emphasize the need for continued dialogue and diplomacy to address the ongoing conflict.
