Culture, History, and Memory Days Kick Off with Tuncer Bagiskan – BRTK

The first History, Culture and Memory Days event, dedicated to the memory of renowned archaeologist Tuncer Bagiskan, has commenced. Organized by Arkhe and under the auspices of Nicosia Turkish Municipality (LTB), the event aims to bring together academic and independent research with a critical perspective.

The opening ceremony, held at Arabahmet Culture House, was attended by NTM President Mehmet Harmancı, CTP Deputy Sami Özuslu, TDP Chairman Zeki Çeler, NTM Assembly members, and members of the Bagiskan family.

The program includes presentations by esteemed speakers such as Zekai Altan, Gaston Neocleous, and Selma Bolayır. Topics discussed include social memory, information centers, urban memory, museumization, and historical artifacts.

Tomorrow’s program features workshops on archiving and photography, along with panel discussions on cultural studies, history education in Cyprus, documentary filmmaking, and symbolism in peace activism.

The event serves as a platform to honor Tuncer Bagiskan’s legacy, promote cultural dialogue, and facilitate collaboration in preserving Cyprus’s rich history and heritage.
