Customs Officers Thwart Illegal Cigarette Trafficking Valued at Over 1 Billion Soums

In Surkhandarya, during an inspection of a vehicle, a large batch of smuggled tobacco products was discovered.

At the “Ayritom” border customs post in Surkhandarya region, a foreign cargo vehicle was passing through the X-ray inspection complex when undeclared cargo items were detected. The vehicle was then subjected to customs inspection with witnesses present.

During the inspection, hidden paper boxes that were not listed in the documents were found in the car trunk. Inside these boxes were 27,000 packs of three types of cigarettes produced abroad, without excise stamps. The total value of the smuggled goods amounted to 1 billion 26 million soums.

Customs authorities are currently conducting additional checks to investigate the smuggling operation further.
