Defendant who Beat Pregnant Sude Naz to Death Granted Release Despite Objections

A woman named Sude Naz Atak was brutally attacked by her partner, Yılmaz Akman, in the middle of the street in Akhisar district, Paşa District, Şehit Teğmen Tahir Ün Street. The incident, which took place on August 16, shocked the bystanders as Akman repeatedly punched Atak and hit her with a metal brush handle. Despite Atak’s cries for help and the presence of their 3-year-old son, no one initially intervened to stop the violence.

Eventually, a brave passerby and some shopkeepers came to Atak’s rescue and managed to overpower Akman. The police were called to the scene, and Akman was taken into custody while Atak received medical treatment for her injuries. It was revealed that Akman had a history of violence, with 18 criminal files against him.

A lawsuit was filed against Akman for “Deliberate injury” and “Public insult”, and during the trial, Akman admitted to the crimes stating that he acted under the influence of alcohol. The judge sentenced Akman to 9 months and 15 days in prison for “public insult” and 15 months for “deliberate injury” with the condition of judicial control.

However, the Akhisar Public Prosecutor’s Office objected to Akman’s release, citing additional criminal files against him for violence. The objection was accepted, and Akman remained in detention. Atak expressed relief at this decision, emphasizing the importance of holding perpetrators of violence against women accountable. She highlighted the impact of the abuse on her child’s well-being and urged for stricter punishment to prevent further femicides.

The case serves as a stark reminder of the prevalence of domestic violence and the need for society to stand up against such atrocities to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals, particularly women and children.
