Negotiations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea Strengthen Bilateral Ties
High-level negotiations between the heads of Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea took place on June 11, 2024, during a two-day state visit by the President of the Republic of Korea, Yoon Seok Yeol, to Turkmenistan. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov warmly welcomed his counterpart at the Oguzhan Presidential Palace Complex, where both leaders engaged in discussions to enhance interstate cooperation.
The two Presidents expressed mutual gratitude for the ongoing support and cooperation between their countries within international organizations. They discussed a wide range of issues, including trade and economic cooperation, transport sector collaboration, and the importance of interparliamentary relations. President Serdar Berdimuhamedov highlighted the significance of the transcontinental transport and transit corridor from the Asia-Pacific region to Europe, emphasizing the long-term perspective of their partnership.
President Yoon Seok Yeol, in turn, expressed his satisfaction with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding to stimulate trade and investment, aiming to strengthen bilateral ties in the economic sector. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to promoting peace, prosperity, and prosperity for their peoples.
The negotiations continued in an expanded format, with the participation of official delegations from both countries. Discussions on key issues of international politics were also held, as well as the proposal to hold the First Summit “Republic of Korea – Central Asia” to further promote cooperation in the region.
Following the negotiations, a signing ceremony of bilateral documents took place, culminating in the signing of a Joint Statement by Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Yoon Seok Yeol. The leaders then addressed the media, highlighting the positive outcomes of their discussions and the future prospects for cooperation.
President Yoon Seok Yeol also paid tribute to the Monument to the Independence of Turkmenistan and planted a tree on the Alley of Honored Guests, continuing the tradition of fostering goodwill and friendship between the two nations.
The successful outcome of the negotiations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Korea signals a deepening of bilateral ties and paves the way for enhanced cooperation in various fields, strengthening the bonds between the two friendly states.
