Director Derviş Zaim Unveils the Captivating Narrative of ‘Dream’ in Exclusive Interview with BRTK
Turkish Cypriot director Derviş Zaim recently attended a screening and interview program titled “The Story of a Film” at the Istanbul Eyüpsultan Municipality Culture and Arts Center. The event showcased Zaim’s 2016 film “Dream”. During the program, Zaim discussed the inspiration behind the film and the cultural richness of Anatolia.
Zaim revealed that the film’s story originated from the construction process of the Sancaktar Mosque. He explained that his observations and research during the mosque’s construction shaped the script of the movie. Zaim also highlighted the importance of incorporating traditional Turkish arts into his films, particularly in relation to the Ashab-ı Kehf (The Seven Sleepers) and Islamic architecture, which were central themes in “Dream”.
Furthermore, Zaim emphasized the significance of the relationship between urban architecture and nature. He stressed that in the modern age, nature-human harmony should be prioritized in city construction and architecture.
Following the interview, Zaim engaged with the audience, answering their questions about his work. The event concluded with the Eyüpsultan Municipality Culture Manager İrfan Employee presenting gifts to the guests.
