The Perfume Fragrance Museum Sheds Light on History
Bekir Kantarcı, the founder of the Perfume Fragrance Museum, recently spoke about how his love for antique works inspired him to create the museum’s collection. Kantarcı said that he collected more than 10 thousand perfume bottles from different countries over the last 35 years. He added that he opened the museum with the products he collected over the years, pointing out that he is a perfumer.
Kantarcı emphasized that they explained the history of fragrance and fragrance raw materials to the visitors with examples, from the Ottoman era to the present. He said that they tried to reflect the interesting scent works of the last period of the Ottoman Empire, the Ottoman Palace scenting, and this whole process with historical information from time to time. They also spent 3 years on an academic process and wrote texts in English and Turkish by compiling information from their expert teachers and source works.
Kantarcı stated that establishing a museum requires serious effort and a long process, but they continue to develop the museum and complete the deficiencies. The museum exhibits distillation tools left from the workshop of the Ottoman Empire and perfume and cologne bottles from Hasan Şevki, one of the first scent makers of the Ottoman Empire. Beykoz fragrance bottles from the 1800s are also on display.
