Don Pasquale Opera Comes to Famagusta on December 20
“Don Pasquale” to Premiere in TRNC for the First Time
The timeless opera “Don Pasquale,” originally staged in Paris in 1843, is set to make its debut in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The play, which has been performed in some of the world’s most prestigious opera houses, will have its country premiere on Wednesday, December 20th at Famagusta-Rauf Raif Denktaş Culture and Congress Palace at 20:00. Following this, the opera will be staged at Nicosia-NEU Atatürk Culture and Congress Center on Friday, December 22nd at 20:00.
The comedy opera, composed by Italian composer G. Donizetti, has been submitted to the Deputy Prime Minister of the TRNC, Ministry of Tourism, Culture, Youth and Environment, State Opera and Ballet Coordination Center (KKTCDOB), the Presidential Symphony Orchestra of the TRNC (KKTCCSO), and the General Directorate of State Opera and Ballet of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey (TCDOBGM).
The upcoming performances will feature Bas Engin Suna as Don Pasquale, Sermin Dikmen Töre as Norina, Ufuk Toker as Ernesto, Tuğrul Enver TÖRE as Doctor Malatesta, and Emre Özarabacı as Notary. The orchestra conductor of the opera is Ali Hoca, the stage director is Aytaç Manizade, and the lighting designer is Oğuz Murat Yılmaz.
The opera performances, to be held free of charge and open to the public, have been made possible through a collaboration between KKTCDOB, TCDOBGM, KKTCCSO, Famagusta Municipality, Eastern Mediterranean University, and with the support of Telsim communication.
