Dozens of Greenhouses Suspended and Owners Fined for Pollution in Tashkent

The Ministry of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change has taken action to address excessive pollutant emissions in greenhouses in Tashkent and the Tashkent region. Following a study that revealed high levels of pollution, operations at 46 seasonal greenhouses have been suspended.

A working group, including representatives from various governmental agencies, conducted the study using a mobile laboratory to measure air pollution along the Tashkent Ring Road. The results showed alarming levels of PM-2.5 and PM-10 pollutants, prompting the Ministry of Ecology to take further action.

Inspections were carried out in a total of 486 greenhouses, with 46 seasonal greenhouses found to be in violation of environmental regulations. As a result, 37 greenhouse owners were fined for violating boiler operation regulations, and 46 greenhouses had their operations suspended.

Furthermore, 426 greenhouse owners were warned about the importance of installing air and gas filtration equipment to meet environmental standards. The Ministry of Energy also emphasized the need for greenhouses to switch to alternative fuels, such as coal, in order to receive gas supply.

To support this transition, subsidies, preferential loans, and compensation for the purchase of coal boilers were offered to greenhouse owners. Temporary restrictions on gas supply in December 2024 were implemented due to a drop in temperature, but were expected to be lifted once gas pressure was restored.

The Ministry of Ecology remains committed to addressing environmental concerns in greenhouses and ensuring compliance with regulations to protect the environment and public health.
