EU Summit Kicks Off – Breaking News
The European Union Summit, which brings together the heads of state or government of 27 EU member countries, has officially begun at 9:00 PM. This summit marks the last meeting of EU leaders before the upcoming European Parliament elections scheduled for June 6-9.
Chaired by EU Council President Charles Michel, the summit also sees the presence of EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EP President Roberta Metsola. The initial session will focus on discussions surrounding Ukraine, Turkey, and developments in the Middle East. Interestingly, after a long period, relations with Turkey have also found their way back onto the EU Summit agenda.
The section concerning Turkey will involve deliberations on the recommendations in a report compiled by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Borrell, along with the EU Commission. These recommendations pertain to the future course of bilateral relations post the Presidential election on May 28, 2023, with the report initially presented back in November 2023.
Economic issues are set to take center stage in the sessions scheduled for tomorrow. As the summit progresses, we can expect significant discussions and decisions to shape the future direction of EU member countries and their relationships with key partners like Ukraine and Turkey.
