Törley Sparkling Wine Cellar, a Hungarian champagne producer, has recently received two gold medals at one of the world’s most prestigious wine competitions. The awards were based on the evaluations of two hundred and fifty wine experts from fifty-five countries. The Francois brand, produced by Törley, was recognized and awarded for its exceptional quality and taste, as reported by World Economy.
The two champagnes from Törley that won gold medals at the Mundus Vini Spring Tasting wine competition in Germany are the Francois President Brut and the Louis Francois & Co. Brut Nature Raw Sparkling Wine. The jury, consisting of around 250 wine experts, selected the winners from over 6000 entries during the four-day event. The recognition of Törley’s champagnes highlights the commitment to producing high-quality products that stand out in a competitive market.
According to András Csomay, the marketing manager of Törley Champagne Winery, the Francois champagne family, founded in 1886, has been a part of Törley’s product range since 1982. They were pioneers in introducing raw champagne as a category to the Hungarian market in the early 2000s, catering to the demand for a unique and special taste among consumers. The Francois champagnes are made using traditional methods, exclusively from Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes from the Etyek-Buda wine region.
In the world of champagnes, the distinction between Brut and Brut Nature lies in the sugar content. Brut champagnes have a minimal amount of expedition liqueur added, while Brut Nature champagnes, also known as Zero Dosage, omit the dosage, showcasing the raw character of the champagne in its natural purity.
The history of Francois champagnes dates back almost 140 years, with Louis François, the namesake of the brand, being a descendant of a Champagne family with a long legacy in champagne production. Louis François, along with his brother Cézare, established the iconic Louis Francois & Co. champagne winery in Hungary, maintaining its unchanged logo and values over the years.
