Famagusta State Hospital Initiates Eye Surgeries
New Eye Surgeries Using Phaco Method Started at Famagusta State Hospital
Minister of Health Hakan Dinçyürek announced the commencement of eye surgeries using the phaco method at Famagusta State Hospital. These surgeries, managed by Ophthalmology Specialists and conducted with the latest technological devices, have been successfully completed under the guidance of experienced physicians.
With this new application, intraocular lens surgery using a phaco device is now available for patients with visual impairment, and the surgeries will be carried out on a regular basis. This new development aims to alleviate the burden on Nicosia Nalbanoğlu Hospital, where these surgeries were previously performed for over 20 years, causing delays and service density.
Minister Dinçyürek emphasized the Ministry of Health’s commitment to conducting various surgeries at all developed centers, providing necessary devices and technical equipment. The surgeries conducted at Famagusta Hospital will now cater to patients in the Famagusta and Iskele regions, eliminating the need for them to travel to Nicosia. This move also improves the service quality and academic standard of Famagusta Hospital.
Furthermore, intraocular injections to prevent vision defects, especially in diabetic patients, will now be administered at Famagusta Hospital. This new arrangement aims to provide easier access to services for citizens in the region, offering a more cost-effective approach for the state.
Expressing gratitude towards all team members and colleagues involved in this initiative, Minister Dinçyürek reaffirmed the commitment to enhancing health services every day with new applications. The Ophthalmologist at Famagusta Hospital, Dr. Erol Dülger, highlighted the seamless and high-quality cataract surgeries conducted with the phaco method, ensuring patients can return home on the same day with improved vision.
Dr. Dülger expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Health and Minister Dinçyürek for their support throughout the process, leading to more efficient patient care. Dr. Firüzan Bardak, the Doctor in Charge of the Eye Service at Nicosia State Hospital, praised the efforts at Famagusta Hospital for reducing service density in Nicosia and pledged continued support for this collaborative approach.
