In a tragic incident that occurred on July 20, a worker lost consciousness due to poisonous gases while cleaning a sewer well in the city of Nurafshan, Tashkent region. The 57-year-old employee of Toshkent Kommunal Qurilish Service LLC, identified as A.K., was immediately assisted by three nearby individuals.

However, the well proved to be a danger zone as all four individuals who entered to help the victim lost consciousness. Unfortunately, two of them succumbed to the toxic fumes and died on the spot. The names of the deceased have not been disclosed.

The local authorities responded swiftly, and the remaining victim, a 27-year-old named Sh.B., was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Meanwhile, an initial investigation by the Nurafshan city forensic medical examination revealed that the cause of death for the three deceased workers was acute hydrogen sulfide poisoning, acute respiratory failure, and cardiovascular failure.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reported that a criminal case has been initiated under Paragraph “b”, Part 2 of Article 257 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to the violation of labor protection rules resulting in grave consequences. Preliminary investigative actions are currently underway in the Nurafshan city Department of Internal Affairs.

The city prosecutor’s office has taken control of the investigation and promised to disclose the results in due course. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of adhering to safety protocols and enforcing labor protection regulations to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.
