First Strike: Shocking Confession in Murder with Stick and Hammer
Father of Four Beaten to Death in Artuklu District
A tragic incident took place on June 22 in the 13 Mart Neighborhood of the Artuklu district. Resul Derin, a father of four, was mercilessly beaten to death with a hammer and a stick by two individuals who approached him from behind as he left his house to go to work. Shockingly, the whole incident was captured by a security camera at a nearby workplace.
In the disturbing footage, two assailants can be seen chasing after Derin as he walked along the road, launching a brutal attack with a hammer and a stick. Derin fell to the ground after the first blow, and the suspects continued to strike him repeatedly until onlookers arrived, prompting them to flee the scene. The perpetrators, identified as cousins Abdulvahap and Selahattin Acet, managed to escape to the Kızıltepe district but were apprehended by the police in a subsequent operation.
Upon searching the suspects’ vehicle, authorities discovered two pistols, two magazines, and 30 bullets. Following the necessary procedures at the police station, the perpetrators were brought before the court and subsequently arrested for the heinous crime of “deliberate murder.”
In their statements, the suspects recounted the events leading up to the fatal attack. Selahattin Acet, one of the assailants, revealed a longstanding feud between their families, citing disagreements and threats. He expressed remorse for his actions, attributing the frenzied assault to a moment of anger provoked by insults directed at him and the sight of his injured mother.
Abdulvahap Acet, on the other hand, claimed that he intervened in the altercation to prevent the victim from using a firearm, asserting that he had no prior acquaintance with Resul Derin. Both suspects denied any intention to kill Derin but acknowledged their involvement in the fatal assault.
The community has been left reeling from this senseless act of violence, with many expressing shock and sorrow over the tragic loss of life. As investigations continue and legal proceedings unfold, the incident serves as a grim reminder of the consequences of unresolved conflicts and the devastating impact of unchecked aggression.
