Hamas Accepts Ceasefire Offer from Qatar and Egypt
In a breaking news development, Hamas has accepted the ceasefire offer from Qatar and Egypt. The announcement was made by Hamas leader Haniye, who conveyed through a statement on the organization’s website that they have accepted the proposals for the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.
The statement revealed that Haniye had a telephone conversation with Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdurrahman Al Thani and Egyptian Intelligence Director Abbas Kamil, during which Hamas approved the proposals presented to them regarding the ceasefire agreement. However, the content of the offers and suggestions was not disclosed in the statement.
Following the acceptance of the ceasefire proposal, a Hamas official stated that “the ball is now in Israel’s court.” Palestinians expressed their joy through celebrations in the streets and tent camps of cities like Rafah, Khan Younis, Deir al-Balah, and Nusayrat in the Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced that Israel will continue its operation in Rafah despite Hamas’s acceptance of the ceasefire offer. An Israeli official emphasized that the proposal accepted by Hamas is not in line with Israel’s demands and contains consequences that Israel does not accept.
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas welcomed the ceasefire proposal mediated by Egypt and Qatar and urged the international community to pressure Israel into accepting the agreement. The Israeli Army Spokesperson stated that they are examining Hamas’s response seriously and will continue operations in Gaza.
Hamas officials confirmed that the accepted offer includes provisions for a ceasefire, reconstruction, return of displaced individuals, and a prisoner exchange agreement. A Hamas delegation is set to visit Cairo soon to discuss the ceasefire agreement in three stages, each lasting 42 days.
The US State Department announced that they will discuss Hamas’s response with allies in the upcoming hours. The White House disclosed that Hamas did not respond during a phone call between President Biden and Netanyahu, emphasizing that they are at a critical stage in reviewing Hamas’s response to the ceasefire proposal.
