“Heroines of Cyprus: Women in the Middle Ages Exhibition” debuts at BRTK

Painter Semra Bayhanlı and Historian Ahmet Hilmi’s “Women of Cyprus in the Middle Ages-Cyprus Heroines Exhibition” opened last night at the Naci Talat Foundation Peace and Friendship House. The event was attended by Prime Minister Ünal Üstel, main opposition Republican Turkish Party Chairman Tufan Erhürman, and other distinguished guests.

President of the Board of Trustees of Nicosia Naci Talat Foundation, Sıla Usar İncirli, expressed gratitude for the interest shown in the exhibition, highlighting the importance of exploring the history of women in Cyprus. She emphasized the need to shed light on the role of women in the history of the island.

Painter Semra Bayhanlı described the project as a “magical process,” where she and Ahmet Hilmi delved into the stories of women in history. Historian Ahmet Hilmi underscored the silence of women’s voices in the Middle Ages and the aim of the project to contribute to gender-focused written history.

The exhibition, showcasing the stories of heroines from Cyprus, will be open to visitors at the Naci Talat Foundation Peace and Friendship House until March 23. This initiative serves as a tribute to the women who played significant roles in the history of Cyprus and aims to inspire future studies on the subject.
