Highway mayhem: Dozens of vehicles collide in icy conditions
A massive chain traffic accident involving over 100 vehicles took place on an icy highway in China’s Jiangsu province, resulting in 9 people being injured, with 3 of them in serious condition. The incident occurred in Sucou city and left a trail of destruction on the road.
State television CCTV aired footage from the scene showing dozens of cars colliding with each other due to the hazardous icy conditions. The aftermath of the accident was chaotic, with vehicles piled up and emergency responders working to assist those involved.
Cold weather and snowfall have been impacting various parts of China following the Spring Festival holiday, leading to dangerous icing on the highways and disrupting intercity travel. As a result, the Ministry of Emergency Situations raised the disaster level to 4 earlier in the week and urged local authorities to implement necessary safety measures to prevent further accidents.
The images from the accident serve as a stark reminder of the importance of driving cautiously in adverse weather conditions and the need for prompt emergency response in such situations. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and work towards ensuring the safety of all travelers on the roads.
