Hungary’s Third Musical Road Completed on Main Road 21
Hungary’s main road 21 between Hatvan and Lőrinci has been graced with a unique addition – the country’s third musical road. This project was announced by the Deputy State Secretary for Road and Railway Construction during a press conference held to inaugurate the project.
Over the years, significant efforts have been made to improve the main road 21, with 45 kilometers of dual carriageway sections being built or renewed between Hatvan and Salgótarján since 2015. As part of the final road improvement project, various elements have been completed or are near completion, including the installation of bus shelters and CCTV cameras near Pásztó, as well as the creation of parking spaces and bicycle storage facilities.
The highlight of the improvements to main road 21 is a 550-meter musical pavement stretch between Hatvan and Lőrinci. Here, motorists can enjoy a unique experience as a fragment of the song “Without you” by the band Ismerős Arcok plays while driving at 80 km/h.
The entire project, costing nearly HUF 1.77 billion (EUR 4.5 million), was commissioned by the Ministry of Construction and Transport and carried out by HE-DO Építő Zrt. This cost includes various amenities such as bus shelters, parking lots, cameras, a wildlife fence, and the unique musical pavement.
According to Fidesz MP Zsolt Becsó, who initiated the project, the musical pavement serves as the perfect final touch to a quarter-century of improvements made to main road 21. He emphasized the importance of revamping this major regional priority, which had been neglected for 8-10 years prior to 2010.
With the completion of the musical road section, drivers on main road 21 can now enjoy a melodious journey while contributing to the economic circulatory system of Hungary and Central and Eastern Europe. The musical road joins Hungary’s first and second musical road sections, further enhancing the country’s unique infrastructure and road network.
