Hungary Strengthens Alliance with Central American States to Combat Global Blocs
In an effort to prevent the re-emergence of blocs in the world, Hungary has announced its plans to enter into an alliance with Central American states, including Panama. The Hungarian foreign minister, Péter Szijjártó, highlighted the importance of unity in the face of global security threats during a visit to Panama City.
Szijjártó emphasized that both Hungary and Panama serve as vital meeting points between the East and West, making collaboration between the two nations essential in safeguarding global stability. He warned that individual events happening around the world pose a significant threat to global security, and if left unchecked, could lead to the resurgence of divisive blocs.
“We do not want the world to be torn apart by blocs once again,” Szijjártó emphasized. “That is why we are forming an alliance with Central American countries who share our vision of a world focused on connections and freedom in global trade.”
Hungary, known for its efforts in improving competitiveness, ranks among the most open economies globally, standing at 33rd place in terms of export performance. This commitment to global trade and economy aligns with the interests of Central American nations, who also serve as key points of connection between different regions.
Szijjártó praised Panama as a prime example of a country with a vested interest in upholding global trade freedom, citing the strategic importance of the Panama Canal in facilitating international trade. He highlighted the mutual benefits of the alliance, including educational exchanges and technological cooperation, especially in areas like water management, waste disposal, and pharmaceutical manufacturing.
