I denounce the coups once more
Turkish Cypriot President Ersin Tatar has spoken out about the historical massacres and coups that have affected the Turkish Cypriot people. In a statement released by the Presidency of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Tatar explained that the Turkish Cypriots were subjected to attacks known as the “Bloody Christmas” on December 21, 1963. This marked the first coup in Cyprus, with the support of Greece.
Tatar also highlighted a second coup and occupation that took place on July 15, 1974. Greece and the EOKA terrorist organization, failing to break the Turkish resistance in Cyprus, carried out this coup. As a result, the “Greek Republic of Cyprus” was declared, aiming to destroy the Turkish Cypriot people and merge Cyprus with Greece. Turkey intervened on July 20, 1974, with a Peace Operation to save and liberate the Turkish Cypriot people from the massacre, bringing peace to the region.
Tatar emphasized that the Turkish people, led by President Erdogan, prevented a coup attempt on July 15, 2016. The FETO terrorist organization, supported and organized by foreign powers, orchestrated the coup in order to undermine Turkey’s democracy and divide the country. The Grand National Assembly of Turkey, representing the will of the people, was attacked during the coup attempt. However, the Turkish people, along with elements of the Turkish Armed Forces and security forces, under President Erdogan’s leadership, foiled the attempt.
The Turkish Cypriot people strongly condemned this coup attempt. Tatar also mentioned that Greek leaders made disturbing statements following the coup attempt, indicating their desire to capture Turkish soldiers and reclaim Cyprus. This sheds light on the dark side of the FETO terrorist organization and its associations.
Tatar condemned countries that protect and support members of the FETO terrorist organization, using them against Turkey. He reiterated his condemnation of any actions that violate human rights, freedom, democracy, and the will of the people worldwide. Tatar commemorated the martyrs who lost their lives defending democracy and the will of the people in Turkey on July 15, 2016, expressing respect for the veterans.
