International Organization for Migration Appeals for $7.9 Billion in Aid – Latest News from Turkey

IOM Calls for Assistance to Save Lives and Protect People on the Move
The International Organization for Migration (IOM) has called for assistance to save lives, protect people on the move, provide solutions to displacement, and facilitate safe routes in regular migration. These objectives are part of the new 5-year Global Strategic Plan, as stated in a recent announcement by IOM.
The organization emphasized that the funding will enable IOM to serve approximately 140 million people, including internally displaced people and the local communities that host them, and will help prevent further displacement.
IOM Director General Amy Pope, whose views were included in the statement, highlighted the unprecedented levels of irregular and forced migration, along with the increasingly complex challenges faced. Pope emphasized that when managed well, migration makes a significant contribution to global prosperity and progress, and that the organization is at a critical time but can do better.
Pope also highlighted the need for funding, stating that the $7.9 billion will address the huge and growing gap between what is available and what is needed to do the job right. This vital call for funding has led the organization to proactively approach all partners for the first time to secure the necessary resources.
The call for assistance comes at a crucial time when the world is facing a growing refugee and migrant crisis. IOM’s efforts to provide support, protection, and solutions to those affected by displacement are essential to addressing this global challenge.
