İskele Celebrates 15th Traditional Anchovy Festival

The Black Sea Cultural Association and Iskele Municipality recently came together to host the 15th Anchovy Festival. The event took place in the courtyard of the association’s Iskele building and featured performances by the horon teams of the Black Sea Cultural Association’s Stars of the North Iskele and Kyrenia branches.

During the festivities, several notable figures addressed the crowd. Black Sea Cultural Association President Murat Civelek and Iskele Mayor Hasan Sadıkoğlu highlighted the diversity and cultural tolerance present in the Iskele region.

Metin Feyzioğlu, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to Nicosia, emphasized the strong connection between the Black Sea people and the Turkish nation, regardless of when they arrived in the region.

There was also a call for greater female representation in the management of the Association, with Ambassador Feyzioğlu specifically noting the positive impact that women can bring to such positions.

Parliament Speaker Zorlu Töre and President Ersin Tatar also delivered messages of unity and solidarity, highlighting the contributions of the Black Sea community to the cultural richness of the region.

3 tons of anchovies from the Black Sea were cooked and served at the festival, delighting attendees who also had the opportunity to enjoy live performances and traditional horon dancing.
