Israeli Defense Minister Defiant in Face of US Sanctions: No One Can Lecture Us – Last Minute World News

Minister of Defense Gallant Meets with Controversial Israeli Army Battalion

In a recent report by the Israeli press, Minister of Defense Yoav Gallant met with the battalion of the Israeli army known as Netzah Yehuda, which is reportedly facing potential sanctions from the USA.

During the meeting, Gallant emphasized that no one can teach Israel about morals and values, especially as they are at the forefront of the war against various powers and terrorist organizations. He reassured the battalion that the security agency is behind them in their efforts.

The Netzah Yehuda Battalion, established for ultra-Orthodox Jews, is comprised entirely of men. It has gained attention for being made up of anti-Palestinian far-right Jewish settlers and fanatical youth, often referred to as “Hill youth”.

Accusations have been made against the battalion for numerous incidents of violence, rights violations, and disproportionate use of force against Palestinians in the occupied West Bank. The USA raised concerns after a US citizen Palestinian named Omar Assad was detained by the battalion in the West Bank on January 12, 2022 and subsequently died despite his deteriorating condition.

Although disciplinary action was taken against the battalion commander and other soldiers involved in the incident, Washington has called for a comprehensive criminal investigation and full accountability in the case.

Reports from the Haaretz newspaper indicate that the battalion was relocated from the West Bank to the occupied Golan Heights in January 2023 due to the ongoing incidents of violence against Palestinian civilians. This move comes as the battalion continues to face scrutiny and potential sanctions from the international community.
