Israeli Forces’ 108-Day Assault: 11,000 Children Killed in Gaza
The toll of Israel’s attacks on Gaza has been devastating, according to reports from the Media Office of the government in Gaza. Over the course of 108 days, 11,000 children and 7,500 women have lost their lives. Additionally, 7,000 people, the majority of whom are women and children, are still buried under rubble or missing. The number of casualties sent to hospitals is 25,925, with a staggering 63,000 people sustaining injuries.
The impact on infrastructure is equally profound, with 70,000 houses completely destroyed and 290,000 more damaged and deemed uninhabitable. Israeli forces have targeted the health sector as well, resulting in the deaths of 337 healthcare workers and 45 civil defense officers.
Journalists have also been in the line of fire, with 119 losing their lives and 99 healthcare workers and 10 journalists being detained by Israeli forces. The displacement of 2 million people in a population of 2.3 million has led to overcrowded living conditions where 400,000 infectious diseases and over 8,000 cases of Hepatitis A have been detected.
A lack of health care has put 60,000 pregnant women and 350,000 individuals with chronic diseases at risk, and the destruction of government facilities, schools, and universities has further exacerbated the situation. 11,000 injured individuals are in need of treatment outside of Gaza, and 10,000 cancer patients are at risk of death due to inadequate medical care.
The assault has not spared cultural and religious sites, with 253 mosques, 200 historical and cultural assets, and even 3 churches falling victim to the destruction. The Israeli army has utilized over 65,000 tons of explosives since the onset of the attacks, leaving a trail of devastation in its wake.
