Israeli Rabbi Issues Ultimatum: Leave Army or Country, Last Minute World News Warns
Israeli Chief Rabbi Yosef Threatens Exodus If Religious People Forced to Join Army
Israeli private television Channel 12 recently aired controversial statements made by Sephardic Chief Rabbi Yosef regarding the issue of religious Israelis being forced to join the army. Yosef stated, “If they force us to join the army, we will all go out of the country. We will buy tickets and go.”
The Chief Rabbi criticized secularists, claiming that they endanger the state. He emphasized the importance of the Torah and religious schools, stating that the Israeli army’s success is thanks to religious individuals who believe in the Torah.
In a letter to the Chief Military Rabbinate of the Israeli Army on December 14, 2023, Yosef warned against soldiers’ behavior, specifically mentioning an incident where Israeli soldiers occupied a mosque in Jenin and read Jewish prayers from loudspeakers. He stressed the importance of respecting the religious feelings of members of other faiths.
Yosef’s statements come in the wake of heightened tensions in the region, with Hamas launching a comprehensive attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, in response to alleged violations against Palestinians and sacred values, particularly the Al-Aqsa Mosque. The conflict has resulted in a significant loss of life on both sides, with thousands of Palestinians, Israelis, and Lebanese civilians killed.
The ongoing violence in the region has led to widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure, with reports of thousands of dead and injured. The situation remains volatile, with no immediate end in sight to the conflict.
