KÖDER Presents Documentary on Jale Derviş at BRTK Screening
Pianist, Composer, and Piano Teacher Jale Derviş Honored in Documentary Screening
The 20th documentary of the “Our Women Who Add Value to Our Lives” production series, focusing on the life and contributions of pianist Jale Derviş, was screened today. Organized by the Cyprus Women’s Stories Association (KÖDER) and sponsored by Önder Shopping Centers, the documentary shed light on the remarkable career of Jale Derviş.
The screening took place at the Mehmet Altınbaş Conference Hall of Nicosia Turkish High School, where Jale Derviş had taught for many years. The event featured a performance by the TMK Alumni Choir, directed by Jale Derviş’s student Gaye Kenan Çağlar, who sang a song composed by Derviş with lyrics by Kamran Aziz. The choir also performed the songs “Nicosia Turkish Girls’ High School March” and “Menekşeler”.
During the event, a short message from one of Derviş’s students, Aylan Okyay Uz, was read, and a conversation took place with the participation of Işın Ramadan Cemil, moderated by Sevilay Sadıkoğlu. KÖDER President Şenay Ekingen and the Board of Directors presented certificates of appreciation to individuals who contributed to the event, including LTL’s Principal Niyazi Türkseven, Choir Chief Gaye Çağlar, and Gülşah Sanver Manavoğlu representing Önder Shopping Centers.
The event was attended by distinguished guests such as Supreme Court Chief Justice Narin Ferdi Şefik, CTP MPs Filiz Besim and Şifa Çolakoğlu, independent MP Ayşegül Baybars, and Ministry of National Education General Secondary Education Department Director Cengiz Uzun. Speakers highlighted Jale Derviş’s musical journey, from her childhood to her pioneering works in promoting classical Western music in Cyprus.
Students of Jale Derviş shared anecdotes and expressed their gratitude for her mentorship and influence on their musical careers. The documentary screening was a tribute to the legacy of Jale Derviş, a renowned figure in the music scene of Cyprus.
