Kyrgyz Officials Arrest Group Suspected of Planning to Take Over Government

Ukraine has accused Russia of destroying a crucial Soviet-era dam on the Dnieper River in southern Ukraine, causing millions of litres of water to flood the region in an act of “terror”. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called it a “war crime” and has called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council, while tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from threatened areas downstream. Russia has denied the accusations and blamed the damage on Ukrainian strikes. The destruction of the Nova Kakhovka dam has also raised concerns about the safety of Ukraine’s largest nuclear plant, which uses water from the reservoir to cool its reactors for “months” according to the International Atomic Energy Agency.
