Kyrgyzstan Doubles Maternity Benefits

New Maternity Benefits Increase in Kyrgyzstan

Effective January 1, 2024, the Ministry of Labor, Social Security and Migration in Kyrgyzstan has announced an increase in maternity benefits. The increase in the amount of benefits paid from the republican budget has been raised from the 11th working day from 10 to 20 calculated rates.

According to the ministry’s press service, for working women with an employment contract, benefits for the first ten working days are determined at 100 percent of their wages, which will be covered by the employer. This means that the benefit has been increased by 100 percent, from 1,000 soms to 2,000 soms. The average benefit before the increase was 3,600 soms, and from January 1, 2024, it will be raised to 7,500 soms.

Additionally, women working in high mountains and remote hard-to-reach areas will be paid benefits in the amount of their full earnings for working days.

It is important to note that maternity benefits are eligible to working women who are in an employment relationship with an employer, individual entrepreneurs, members of peasant farms, and women who are recognized as officially unemployed and have the right to unemployment benefits.

This increase in maternity benefits is expected to provide better support and financial assistance to working women during their maternity leave, ensuring the well-being of both mother and child.
