Border Dispute Between Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan Resolved, President Confirms
In a recent interview with Kabar news agency, President Sadyr Japarov of Kyrgyzstan announced that the disputed territories along the Kyrgyz-Tajik border have been divided equally, with a 50/50 split. He mentioned that an equal exchange of land plots has taken place in several instances, and all necessary documentary procedures are nearing completion.
Once the intergovernmental commissions of both countries finish their work, the documents will be signed by the respective foreign ministers, followed by ratification by the parliaments, and ultimately signed by the presidents. President Japarov expressed confidence that this resolution will effectively settle all border-related issues between the Central Asian neighbors.
Furthermore, President Japarov revealed that the border posts with Tajikistan, which had been closed for three years, will be reopened as soon as the delimitation process concludes. This development is expected to facilitate trade between the two countries, offering a boost to their economies.
The President highlighted that unresolved border disputes often deter investors and tourists from visiting affected regions. By resolving these issues, both countries aim to foster closer ties, attract investments, and enhance the quality of life for their citizens.
Additionally, Kamchybek Tashiev, the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, announced at a recent parliamentary meeting that the delineation of the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border has been successfully completed. He indicated that a formal report on the border delineation is expected to be presented in mid- to late January.
With the resolution of the border dispute, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan are poised to strengthen their relations, boost economic cooperation, and create a more conducive environment for mutual prosperity and development.
