Kyrgyzstani Man Acquitted of Stealing 7 Million Rubles in Novosibirsk Court

Novosibirsk Regional Court overturns verdict and terminates criminal prosecution of Kyrgyz cleaner
Bishkek – In a recent development, the Novosibirsk Regional Court has overturned the verdict of the Oktyabrsky District Court and terminated the criminal prosecution of Ainagul Borbueva, a cleaner from Kyrgyzstan. This decision comes after the woman was sentenced to 2.5 years in prison for allegedly stealing a bag containing 7 million rubles in Novosibirsk.
According to reports, Borbueva claimed that there was no money inside the bag and that she picked it up from the sidewalk near house No. 1 on Dobrolyubov Street. Despite her assertions, the court found her guilty and sentenced her to 2 years and 6 months in a general regime colony. However, in June 2023, the Novosibirsk Regional Court upheld the appeal filed by Borbueva’s lawyer and released her from the courtroom.
On October 25, the Novosibirsk Regional Court ultimately overturned the verdict of the Oktyabrsky Court and recognized Borbueva’s right to rehabilitation. This decision marks the end of a legal battle that began in 2021 when Borbueva was initially accused of theft.
The case of Ainagul Borbueva has garnered significant attention, with many pointing to it as an example of the importance of fair and just legal proceedings. As the legal system continues to evolve, it is crucial to ensure that all individuals are treated fairly and given the opportunity to defend themselves in court.
