Kyrgyzstan’s Flag Undergoes Last Minute Change

Kyrgyzstan Celebrates New Flag Design at Ala-Too Square

A ceremony to raise the country’s flag, featuring a new design, took place at Ala-Too Square with the participation of prominent government officials and dignitaries. The event was attended by the Speaker of the Kyrgyz Parliament, Nurlanbek Şakiyev, and the Chairman of the Council of Ministers, Kilitbek Caparov.

State Secretary Suyunbek Kasmambetov, Minister of Emergency Situations Boobek Ajikeyev, Chief of General Staff Ruslan Mukambetov, Bishkek Metropolitan Mayor Aybek Dunushaliyev, as well as Jusup Matayev and Bekbosun Jaychibekov, who took part in the design of the country’s flag in 1992, were also present at the ceremony.

The military band played the Kyrgyz National Anthem as the soldiers raised the giant flag. This marked the official unveiling of the new flag, which features several modifications.

The “Proposal on Amending the Law on State Symbols of the Kyrgyz Republic,” prepared by Parliament Speaker Shakiyev and Deputy Ulan Primov, was approved by President Sadır Dzhoparov on December 22, 2023. The amendments include flattening the wave-shaped sun rays on the country’s flag and increasing the number of lines in the motif in the middle.

The new flag design represents an important symbolic change for the country and was celebrated with great enthusiasm at the ceremony. The updated design reflects the evolving identity and aspirations of the Kyrgyz Republic as it continues to move forward in the 21st century.
