Last Minute Technology News: Hackers Receive Blow as Lockbit Group Hacked

The US, along with other countries such as England, Canada, Japan, and Germany, has joined forces to put a stop to the operations of cyber pirates. Lockbit, known as the world’s most dangerous hacker group in terms of ransomware, has been targeted by this task force.
The group of cyber pirates claimed to have backups of the systems they disabled, but their operations have been halted thanks to the collaborative efforts of multiple countries.
In response to the ongoing threat posed by groups such as LockBit, the US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on two individuals affiliated with the Russia-based ransomware group. According to the statement released by the department, Russia continues to provide a safe haven for these groups, allowing them to launch ransomware attacks against the US and its allies.
The sanctions have been placed on Ivan Gennadievich Kondratiev, who is the leader of the subgroup “National Hazard Society” affiliated with LockBit, and Artur Sungatov, who is an active member of the ransomware group and has participated in their attacks.
The US remains determined to combat cybercrime using all available authorities and tools, and this decision to impose sanctions is a result of ongoing cooperation with the US Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the country’s international partners. This marks a significant step in the fight against cyber piracy and sends a clear message to those involved in such illegal activities.
