Merit Republic Race: BRTK Hosts Annual Event
1st Merit Republic Race Celebrates 40th Anniversary of TRNC
The 1st Merit Republic Race took place recently, coinciding with the 40th anniversary of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The race, organized by the Merit Hotels Group, saw student participants from Alsancak Primary School, Lapta Primary School, Karşıyaka Primary School, and Karaoğlanoğlu Primary School competing against each other.
In the team category, Alsancak Primary School secured the first place in both the girls’ and boys’ teams. Lapta Primary School obtained the second position in the girls’ teams, while Karşıyaka Primary School and Karaoğlanoğlu Primary School finished third and fourth, respectively. Similarly, in the boys’ teams, Lapta Primary School came second, followed by Karaoğlanoğlu Primary School and Karşıyaka Primary School.
In the individual category, all the medal-winning students from both the girls’ and boys’ teams were from Alsancak Primary School. Hatice Yulaf claimed the first place in the girls’ teams, with Sabiha Tapınç and Maede Sepanji securing the second and third positions. Nikita Taushankov, Ramazan Tapınç, and İbrahim Karaoğlan took the top three spots in the boys’ teams individual category.
The award ceremony, which was held after the competition, was attended by Girne Mayor Murat Şenkul, Lapta-Alsancak-Çamlıbel Mayor Fırat Ataser, Kyrenia Police Deputy Chief Hasan Karabaşak, Net Holding Board Member Reha Arar, and school principals.
In his address to the students, Net Holding Board Member Reha Arar highlighted the significance of the joint celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey and the 40th anniversary of the TRNC. He emphasized the symbolism of brotherhood between the two countries and paid homage to the founders, Atatürk and Rauf Denktaş.
Arar advised the young participants to work with knowledge, wisdom, power, and strength to uphold their country’s pride at higher levels of success. He commended the students for successfully completing the race and encouraged more participation in the next year’s competition.
The 1st Merit Republic Race brought together students from different primary schools in a spirit of healthy competition and camaraderie, fostering a sense of national pride and unity among the youth.
